1. Industrial Challenge & Quality Requirements
In footwear manufacturing, woven elastic straps must be cut to precise lengths with sealed edges to prevent fraying and marked with stitching alignment notches. Manual cutting caused uneven frayed ends, inaccurate tension marks, and high labor overhead. An automated CNC hot-knife cutting and pneumatic marking workstation was developed to eliminate these bottlenecks.
2. Mechanical Engineering & Thermal Cutting
- Thermal Edge-Sealing Blade: Temperature-controlled heating element cuts synthetic elastic straps while simultaneously fusing edge fibers to eliminate fraying.
- Tensioned Unspooling Mechanism: Constant-tension dancer arm prevents elastic stretching during indexing for repeatable finished lengths.
- SolidWorks 3D CAD: Designed all structural subassemblies, bearing blocks, guide plates, and thermal insulation shielding.
3. Motion Control & Automation Sequence
Coordinated motion control sequence:
- Feed Phase: Stepper motor indexes ribbon by exact target length with zero slippage.
- Marking Phase: Pneumatic cylinder stamps alignment ink mark at programmable offsets.
- Thermal Cut Phase: Pneumatically pressed heated blade descends, cuts, seals edges, and retracts in under 400 ms.
