1. Operational Bottlenecks & Scope

Large industrial plants experience heavy daily truck and delivery van ingress/egress. Manual logbook tracking caused significant gate queues, inaccurate turn-around time tracking, and potential security vulnerabilities. The goal was an automated checkpoint reading vehicle windshield tags as trucks approach, validating delivery manifests, and logging turnaround metrics automatically.

2. Hardware & Controller Integration

  • Long-Range RFID Receivers: High-gain directional antennas mounted at gate approaches for dependable tag acquisition up to 6 meters.
  • Controller Gateway: Microcontroller-based serial bridge receiving raw Wiegand/RS485 data and forwarding parsed frames over Ethernet/USB.
  • Barrier Automation: Dual relay logic controlling open, hold, and safety loop inductive sensor down-triggers for heavy boom barriers.

3. Python Application & Database Architecture

A centralized desktop application was built for security control rooms:

  • MySQL Database: Normalized tables for vehicle registries, driver credentials, cargo manifests, and timestamped entry/exit logs.
  • Dwell Time Calculations: Automatically calculates exact factory premises duration to identify loading/unloading logistics delays.
  • Audit Reporting: Automated export of daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle movement reports to Excel/PDF.
